A recent article entitled “Robo Arrested On Concealed Weapon Charge” carries on the tradition of The Arcata Eye’s sad excuse for “news” coverage, this time regarding my recent arrest at HSU. The article is rife with downright lies and half-truths as can be seen by comparing it with the police report and my narrative found in my recent article “Robo’s arrest for calling 9-1-1 to report danger to others: Police Report & Rebuttal.”

This blatant propaganda by the Arcata LEye is an apparent attempt to capitalize on the sensationalist headline and false claims using my name to achieve sales. Four days of attempts to refute the article via comments on the site were unsuccessful. The false reports have been circulating on the radio in the area.

Kevin Hoover, editor and owner of the Arcata Eye, says a tip, from a source which he will not disclose, let him know I was arrested. Hoover, who wrote the article, had only one source in the article, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brenda Godsey. The quality of the information presented by Hoover is rotten at best and though I was out of jail by the time he went to print, there was no attempt to contact me. He has refused to issue corrections in the newest edition which hits the stands today.

Hoover writes HCSO spokesperson Godsey’s supposed claims that, on June 10th, 2010, I called 911 for “unknown reasons.” The reasons are not unknown, actual reports clearly illustrate that I called 911 to report an assault by a hitchhiker on a bike ride to a friend’s house whom I was house-sitting for. Furthermore, Hoover’s account also incorrectly states that police came to my home in McKinleyville. Though I currently live in McKinleyville now, I was living in Sunnybrae last June. The incident I reported was on the 101 North past the Guintoli Ave. on ramp and my initial arrest was near Six Rivers Brewery.

Being deprived of my freedom for eight days and $1,600 in debt are among some of the ongoing problems I suffer resulting from reporting an assault on my bike ride home last year. Without explanation I was thrown into a cruiser, not informed of any charge or read my rights on the early morning hours of June 10th, 2010.

Rather than investigate my report of being attacked by a hitchhiker on the 101 North, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy Scott Hicks arrested me. What was the charge you ask? After being thrown in a jail cell for a few hours, with no communication whatsoever, I wondered the same thing.

After years of activism at Humboldt State University, criticizing the tyrannical administration of Rollin Richmond, University Police were more than happy to arrest me while reporting on the April 13th budget cut protest and walkout. I was cherry-picked from the large crowd while filming a march through administrative and class buildings. Protesters banged on walls and handrails rhythmically to chants. Despite clear violations of numerous campus policies meant to inhibit free speech on campus, HSU-UPD ran my name and found a warrant for my arrest. The warrant stems from a missed court date, as I try to go to trial and vindicate myself in an ongoing case.

This is one absurdity in a chain of events stemming from my June 10th, 2010 9-1-1  call reporting being attacked by a hitchhiker on the 101 north which led to my arrest and a failure, on the part of the police, to investigate my report. That mishap is discussed in another post, “Robo’s Arrest for calling 9-1-1 to report danger to others,” explaining how I was arrested on the charge of a concealed weapon for a legally open-carried knife and a slew of other charges. I lost five days of my life as a result waiting to go before a judge to be released on my own recognizance, having no prior record.

On April 13th students and faculty walked out of their classes to rally in front of the Humboldt State University’s underfunded Library. The gathering was not in accordance with campus policies such as the Orwellian named designated “free speech zone” and ended in a disruptive march through campus buildings. Complete with amplified sound and short speeches, each speaker gave their two cents on the newest round of budget cuts. As the bankster engineered depression pushes California towards bankruptcy hopefully the people can connect the dots of the interwoven oppressive matrix of policies in America today.

Rally stage at HSU Library

Education is a source of economic prosperity and cutting this part of the budget is like shooting yourself in the foot while trying to escape a burning building. Not to mention endless dollars dumped on the fire via bailouts for criminal banks or the prison and military industrial complexes. If one takes an objective view of the state budget then the crisis is not so much a shortage of funds but a misallocation of state revenues. One group of young ladies had a sign that said “Cut from Prisons not from HSU!”
